I see some of the 'bad' reviews have not understood it's primarily about the man and consequently discusses how he turned into such a kind and considerate and well-balanced human being, despite being beaten and horribly mistreated as a child. There is one part in the movie that stands out, as it shows what happens if you dont educate your foal from day one, and allow them to teach themselves while you stay hands off. Buck shows you a different way of doing this that is non harsh and allows the horse to learn what it is you want. Film clips and reminiscences of a childhood terrorized by savage parenting make it clear that the young Buck knew what it was like to be treated like a beast. I think one of the most important things that Buck teaches the watcher is the fact that the tools he gives you for working with a horse are also the basic tools for living a good life.
