In (ta && ta.queueForLoad ? The Candia Park Village is a superb Hotel to stay when travelling with children. What stanbr says is 100% correct. However, you have access to some other amazing beaches, like Elafonissi Beach. The view is just amazing (see more photos here). Even the Samaria Gorge can be easily done by bus as you enter from the mountain ranges and you walk down to the beach area (a beautiful trek by the way). Amazing dining there, the best of Crete (together with Rethymno).

>> Crete for 5 days – I suggest staying in Chania or close to the town. I would probably stay in 2 places, to see and explore most of Crete. Obviously, it’s a gorgeous area. The Aris Hotel in Paleochora is one of the best options in town. It’s the name of a district made of Kato and Pano Gouves, lower and upper Gouves. But not really the reason to come here. Want a romantic getaway would you choose Chania over Malia ? Another great choice is the Petrakis Sea View. From Paleochora you can take the ferry to the villages on the south coast, mostly isolated and with no land access. Enjoy your holiday!

Really highly suggested. We absolutely do not want to be in a tourist trap town with drunks, pubs, and ugly architecture, etc... Where must we avoid staying for sure while in Crete?

If you want to tour the island you could fly to Heraklion or Sitia, explore the eastern part of the island and then move to the west and finally fly out from Chania, assuming your departing airport is connected with both cities.

Almost everywhere else in Crete offers something for somebody, depending on their interests and tastes. I love the night scene there. I fancy Crete this year for a change, but really don't know where to start in terms of resorts. They run quite frequently, very easy and inexpensive. They are both beautiful and very characteristic. And it’s also easier to go from Santorini to Heraklion, just a boat away (2 hours to 6 hours, based on speed/money). I am looking for 1 place or 2 place to stay mac (we don’t want to spend our hollidays in a car ). The place I suggest the most is Rethymno. After recently visiting the north coast after a 20 year absence Plakias is very tame in comparison and the beach has never been crowded when we've been - though we do tend to go out of season.

Remember to have a walk to the castle for the beautiful view.
